untitled 1996 (p.29 from the artist's book 'Atlas')
Notes
This is the uncorrected proof of Clarke's novel. In the final, published version, Accra Shepp's portrait (exposed on a leaf painted with liquid photo emulsion) is cropped for a tighter view. The resulting design is more forceful but compromises the object-like quiality that makes Shepp's image so graceful and evocative.
