There may be some irony in the notion that this paperback reprint of Fay Weldon's novel about female stereotypes and body image, first published in 1967 (one year after the formation of the National Organization for Women), uses a painting after a Brassai photograph of a Parisian prostitute as a literal metaphor for its title.
